Orthotics has had a place in modern medicine for decades, and the basic principle behind many of them remains unchanged. But technology is constantly evolving, moving the field forward in exciting new ways. Today’s advanced technology means that orthotics are more effective and comfortable than ever before, and our professional practitioners are well verse in the latest technology and devices available.advanced-technology-orthotics

Specific circumstances call for different types of orthotic devices, and our team will determine which options are right for you. If you’re candidate for orthotics that use advanced technology, you’ll be fitted for the device and given the tools to use and care for it properly. Some of the different devices that use advanced technology include:

  • Walkaide – This device uses functional electrical stimulation to improve walking capabilities. Patients who have developed a condition known as foot drop due to injury or disease like a spinal cord injury or cerebral palsy are may be candidates for this device. It can help compensate for toe drag and other basic walking issues. http://www.walkaide.com/Pages/default.aspx
  • C-Brace® – The C-Brace orthotronic mobility system provides real time gait analysis throughout the entire gait cycle, enabling it to manage every period of gait and deliver incredible stability and responsiveness, regardless of the terrain or patient’s walking speed.  The “C-Brace” enables patients to walk with controlled knee flexion and confidently for the first time descend stairs step over step, and walk down hills and ramps. http://www.ottobockus.com/orthotics/solution-overview/orthotronic-mobility-system-c-brace/
  • Stance Control KAFO – This is a variation of the standard Knee, Ankle, and Foot Orthotic device, but the stance control variation allows the knee to bend to some degree during the swing phase of walking. This helps deliver a more normal looking and feeling gait. With this device patients no longer have to walk with a locked knee, which eliminates the need for many compensatory deviations while walking.  http://www.ottobockus.com/orthotics/solution-overview/stance-control-knee-brace-freewalk/

These are just a few examples of the different orthotic options our team can provide to you. Whether you need an upper extremity or lower extremity orthosis, all options are always available to our patients. Today’s advancedorthotic-brace technology means that better results are easier to obtain, and the right device can change your life in tremendous ways. With an average of 15 years’ experience in the orthotic field, each of our practitioners is capable of making sure you get the orthotic device you need.
